The Hunslet Churches Initiative is a part of the Leeds Christian Community Trust. The Trust is a limited company and also a registered charity and offers start up funding and legal structure to small community organisations. LCCT was established in 2002 and currently supports over 20 projects across Leeds.
The Hunslet Churches Together Initiative is a group of Churches with a desire to serve its local community. We began in October 2006 and have since developed a steering group of four local people and have employed a part time project manager and two part time youth workers. We are also supported by a number of volunteers.
We operate out of a Salvation Army Building in the centre of Hunslet. We have office space and community space.
The youth project we have established is called Frontline. The Frontline youth project currently offers detached youth work, a weekly youth club with games and activities and finally mentoring in the local high schools.
The Hunslet Churches Together Initiative is also exploring the possibility of developing a debt counselling project.
The vision of a Community Centre of Excellence was founded in a desire to develop a partnered provision for vulnerable young people in South Leeds. The Centre would become a social enterprise. Projects and organisations who fit a clearly defined ethos of community regeneration are to be invited to become tenant partners at the Centre.
